Foil Essick Scholarship Fund - Catawba College

Foil Essick was born in 1903, the son of Andrew L. and Florence W. Essick.  He graduated from Catawba College and served as Student Government President.   Mr. Essick worked for the State of North Carolina as a Parole Officer.  He was married and divorced after many years of marriage.  The couple had no children.  Mr. Essick was connected to Pilgrim through his parents’ membership. However, Foil’s name is not found on any membership list. But none the less, he was buried in Pilgrim Reformed Church Cemetery in 1983.

In June 1981, Mr. Essick set forth criteria for the scholarship at Catawba College. Information regarding the guidelines were requested and received from Catawba College in January 2015.  A copy of Mr. Essick’s “desires” has been attached to this document.

It is intended for this pertinent information to be kept on file by paper copy and computer copy in the office of Pilgrim Reformed Church.  A copy will be filed in the 2015 Consistory Office Notebook.

The scholarship fund has $17,777.85 as reported by Catawba College in December 2014.

Morning Glory Scholarship

The Morning Glory Circle of Pilgrim Reformed Church originally established the Morning Glory Scholarship.  As years past, this women’s circle waned due to the death of many members.  The money remains available through the Morning Glory Scholarship of Pilgrim Reformed Church.  Money for college education is available upon request from any current active member of the church.  Guidelines and application forms are available through the church office.  Application approval and monetary distribution is rendered by the women of Pilgrim Circle.
